Relocating is usually exciting but can be a bit confusing and lonely at times. The focus might be on the kids finding their footing and making friends and it’s easy to forget that you also need social encounters, a dinner here, a padel game there. The good news is that expats tend to be open and eager to get to know new people in the same situation as themselves. And of course school parents are a great place to find new buddies.
So how to make friends as an adult? Ok school parents is and obvious place to start if you have kids. Scheduling playdates is classic approach. But also going to the social events the school has to offer, and say yes to birthday parties if invited, they are great places to strike up conversations.
Another approach is to find a parent that have been here longer than you, ask about potential whatsapp/facebook groups for pilates, hikes, padel games, dinners? Is there one you can join or perhaps even start one? This is also great for those of you who don’t have kids and can’t rely on the school community.
Join activities where ever you can. There are plenty of facebook groups and it is a great way to find out what’s going on and by joining activities and events you might just find your new best bud. Follow the Calendar Mallorca for updated info on what’s going on!
So although it might feel scary, exchanging nr’s, saying yes to most things and being open will lead to new friends in no time!
